New Videos and Playlists

TrustingDoubt has uploaded the seventh part of her God's Emotions series which explores Christian concepts of god using affective science.

Youtube Channel update
After updating the layout and phasing out the Favorites section of my Youtube Channel, a couple of new playlists has been added to organize some of the videos retained from the favorites "playlist".

QualiaSoup and TheraminTrees
This playlist contains a majority of QualiaSoup's videos and a handful of TheraminTrees pertaining to topics such as skepticism, science, religion and atheism.

Psychology of Belief
A 10 part series created by AntiCitizenX. It explores how belief is generated and various cognitive biases and how they relate to belief in god(s).

Discovering Religion
This series created by DiscoveringReligion explores creationism, evolution, religious influence on government and morality. As of now, it has 22 episodes.

AronRa Evolution Videos
Aside from his Foundational Falsehood of Creationism series, AronRa has a number of videos pertaining to evolution. Like his series, these videos are content heavy, very interesting and educational.

Evid3nc3 Series: Atheism
A playlist consisting part of Evid3nc3's series that pertains to atheism. Personally, the highlight of the series so far is the video: A History of God.

Animated Arguments
A playlist of videos of standalone animated "arguments" by DarkMatter2525.

"There are no gods"
3 videos, 40 minutes. This is a response series by TheraminTrees addressing concepts of god he once accepted and now rejects.

Old Testament Gods - AETV
3 episodes of the Atheist Experience TV show on the topic of Old Testament gods. Spanning more than 4 hours, Tracie explores the OT pantheon (El, Asherah, etc) with Matt while answering calls intermittently.

Channel Update

Just a note. The Atheozoa Youtube channel has been updated with the new layout format.

As such, the favorite videos section has been phased out (the Favorites playlist is just plain too messy to feature). Also, the new layout removed the "Subscriptions" section and replaced it with the "Featured Channels" section where I have only put up a couple of channels at the moment.

One nice new feature is the "Featured Playlists" section where I've put up the the higher quality video series by several Youtubers.

Do check out the channel at: Channel Atheozoa

Slow but not dead

Self evidently, I have not been updating my blog lately. And I really do hope that the situation would improve. At least, slightly.

The thing is, serving National Service drains a lot away. I would either have no energy to think, no time to think or simply have nothing to think.

Following the entry, I would make it a duty to post at least once a week (since I'm only around on weekends). I may not have much to offer relative to what I have done in the past. The least I would do would be plugging Youtube videos that I found to be interesting.

Enlisted for National Service

As of tomorrow, 12 June 2009, this blog will cease to be active and lie dormant for quite awhile.

Why? Because I have been enlisted for National Service (ie, conscription). So I will not be around to post anything. Hopefully, when I do get out of camp, I would have something of relevance to post (if I do post at all).

To the people who drop by my blog, go ahead and post on the chatbox - that's what it's for.

Articles

Here's a compilation of the my more lengthy entries that discusses specific topics. This page is linked on the shortcuts at the top of my blog and will be updated when I have more essays to add.

The Atheozoan Channel

I've created a Youtube channel for convenience of looking for videos and playlists that I've recommended on my blog.

So here it is: Atheozoan Channel.

And here's the list of playlist I have created so far. You can click on the links below to go each of the playlist and view the videos that make up each playlist or hit the "Play All Videos" button to watch the whole thing.

Evolution

These playlists deals with Evolution (with other sciences) owning Creationism/Intelligent Design. Occasional creationism arse kicking is a common feature.

This series by potholer54 explains the scientific evidence for our origins, from the Big Bang to the human migration out of Africa. It challenges people who believe we were created by a deity 6,000 years ago to confront the evidence instead of ignoring it.

Here's a series describing the various aspects of the theory of evolution. This includes the history and findings leading towards the establishment of the modern theory of evolution. Later in the series, it goes into the predictions made by the theory as well as the details of its supporting evidence.

This series consist of 4 holiday lectures (approx 1 hour each) by HHMI on the topic of Evolution.
► Lecture 2 — Selection in Action
► Lecture 3 — Fossils, Genes, and Embryos
► Lecture 4 — From Butterflies to Humans

This series by DonExodus2 deals with the various topics on the subject of evolution.

Another series by DonExodus2 dealing with the evidence for evolution.

This is a six-part series by shanedk which explains the scientific basis for evolution while refuting lies from creationists. This series was made in response to Creation Ministries International's article found here.

Creationism
These playlists deals with creationism more directly. However, there's lots of science and evolution tidbits along the way.

A series by AronRa which deals with the creationism movement. While exposing the fallacies and lies the movement is based upon, this series brings with it truckloads of information tidbit on the theory of evolution.

Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial captures the turmoil that tore apart the community of Dover, Pennsylvania in a landmark battle over the teaching of evolution in public schools. This is the trial where Intelligent Design fell flat on its face in all possible aspects.
This series is a fantastic lecture by renowned Cell Biologist and author Dr. Ken Miller. In the lecture, he discusses some of the evidence for Evolution from the fossil record, genetics, and genome analysis. He also discusses his role in the Dover trial where Intelligent Design collapsed in federal court.

This series by cdk007 shows how a belief that the universe is 6,000 years old requires one to deny the theory of gravity.

Here's a series by Thunderf00t exposing the funny stupidity of creationists and why they deserve to be laughed at. In each case, the creationist statements are shown to be outrageously stupid by even the most rudimentary knowledge of science.

This series by AndromedasWake deals with the CrAP that is creation astronomy propaganda.

In this series by Potholer54debunks will look at the various lies, myths and misunderstandings creationists like to spread about science and bust them.

Science and Skepticism
These playlists deals with general sciences and its public perception and misconceptions. Mainly focusing on the scientific method and general skeptic thought.

Most people fully accept paranormal and pseudoscientific claims without critique as they are promoted by the mass media. Here Be Dragons offers a toolbox for recognizing and understanding the dangers of pseudoscience, and appreciation for the reality-based benefits offered by real science.

This series follows Richard Dawkins as he meets with people who have experienced the wonders of science first-hand. We'll also see how dangerous the ignorance of science can be in classrooms, courts, and beyond.

Professor Richard Dawkins tackles the epidemic of irrational, superstitious thinking which is blotting the light of logic and evidence. After garnering tips on psychics' entirely earthly trade secrets from the illusionist Derren Brown, Dawkins attends a seance and confronts the medium. Time and again, the interviewees appeal to personal revelation or second-hand anecdote to justify their belief.

The Irrational Health Service uploaded by keuriseudo
Professor Richard Dawkins examines the growing suspicion the public has for science based medicine, despite its track record of successes like the germ theory of disease, vaccines, antibiotics and increased lifespan.

God, Religion and Atheism
Here are the playlists that deals with belief and non-belief in god.

Along with his million-copy bestseller The God Delusion, Richard Dawkins has helped inspire people of reason worldwide to say "Enough is enough!" Our modern world is the product of a long march from ignorance and fear to the Enlightenment and beyond, always guided by the power of science and reason. To now abandon our endeavour toward progress and knowledge for faith and superstition puts humanity in peril.

Dawkins argues that the process of non-thinking called faith is not a way of understanding the world, but instead stands in fundamental opposition to modern science and the scientific method, and is divisive and dangerous.

Christianity

Here are the playlists that deals with discussion about Christianity and the bible.

This video series by holysinecure addresses inconsistencies & contradictions in the Bible that were studied and researched on the way out of organized religion.

This series by 43alley uses a verbatim reading from lesser-known stories from the Bible. And by "lesser-known," that means horrible stories that the religious either pretend do not exist, or wish didn't.

To view videos that do not belong to any particular series, you can go straight to my favorites.

I'd also highly recommend all the channels that I'm subscribed to.

* Note: This page is no longer updated. If you find a broken link, head straight for my YouTube channel to find the playlist instead.

Atheozoa

Atheozoa. I made this name up using the Greek words “atheos” meaning “godless and “zoia” meaning “animals”. So Atheozoa means “godless animals”. I made this word up because I wanted a word to represent what myself… erm… ah, forget the crap talk. I made the word because I wanted something that made at least some sense and has the alphabet “z” or “x” in it. Why? Cause’ I’m a sucker for that.

As you should have guessed by now, I am an atheist. I am also a male Chinese Singaporean. And I have great interest in Science. Though I have never quite subscribed to the whole idea of god(s), I didn’t identify myself as an atheist until early this year. I only became active with regards to this topic when I saw Youtube videos about god, religion, atheism and then… Richard Dawkins. He pwns. Heck, now I regard Richard Dawkins as my idol.

Anyways, I created this blog so that I can voice some of my opinions. Not so much for the whole damn world to see it but just to get things off my chest. While I am somewhat outspoken about my irreligiosity, my friends aren’t. So talking to them about such topics don’t interest them as much as it interest me. But hey, I didn’t make friends just so that they can hear me rant about stuff. So, here I am. I’ll rant here.

Keeping in mind that I’m in Singapore, I probably shouldn’t be too vocal about atheism and anti-theism. However, I shan't be giving religion any "special" respect. It never deserved it anyways.

Basically, I will talk about anything I feel like talking about here. Be it amusing or stupid, interesting or ridiculous, foreign or domestic politics, religious or not, it can and will be found here. And not forgetting, Science and stuff.
